About us

The main objective of the Graduate Program in Human Communication Healthcare (PPGSCH) is to offer quality training, promoting scientific research that contributes to the construction and consolidation of knowledge in the field of human communication under the Phonoaudiology aproach. The Program is committed to stimulate the development of this science and profession in the Northeast region, considering the interdisciplinarity of its object of study, fomenting research directed to the human communication, in its aspects of development, functional, social determinants and interventions, in the different areas of Phonoaudiology, encouraging the presentation of solutions for the problems that affect the society.

The Program has one Program of Study: Phonoaudiology; and is based on two research areas: “Hearing and Language: Development, Diagnosis and Speech Therapy” and “Orofacial Motricity, Voice and Related Functions: Development, Diagnosis and Speech Therapy”.

Both areas study human communication through the comprehension of the processes involved in development, evaluation, diagnosis and intervention, addressing the different life cycles, from studies of normality, clinical-therapeutic in phonoaudiological changes, and interventions at individual and collective levels.

Specifically, the Program intends to: develop didactic-pedagogical skills, with the purpose of preparing the students for Higher Education teaching practice; promote a formation directed to the qualification for scientific research, in order to guarantee conceptual, theoretical and methodological bases, as well as the critical analysis in relation to the process of construction of the scientific knowledge; foster the participation of the students in different contexts of scientific knowledge dissemination regarding the knowledge built in their subject area.

The existence of a Master’s degree program in Human Communication Healthcare at UFPE (Federal University of Pernambuco) is a milestone both in terms of opportunities for academic training, with professional insertion in the research area, and in terms of increasing scientific knowledge, with the opportunity for development and innovation of scientific methods, based on the reality in which it is inserted and the proposed interdisciplinarity.
