Awards Awards

The PPGGBM stands out for the awards received by its members during the 2021-2014 quadrennium, totaling 24 distinctions (Tables and Figure below). Of these, 18 are awards and six are honorable mentions in scientific events. Among the 24 distinctions, 19 involved students, with eight postgraduate students and 11 undergraduate students. Many of these latter awards included PPGGBM students as co-authors, highlighting the importance of mentoring activities in developing leadership skills among PPGGBM students.

In addition to the awards for students, four prizes were granted to faculty members of PPGGBM, including an award at an international event to Professor Isabelle Viana, recognized as a distinguished young researcher by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Harvard University, USA.

Regarding the scope of the events that awarded the prizes, two international events and four national congresses stand out, three of which were organized by the Brazilian Society of Genetics (SBG) and one by the Brazilian Society of Parasitology. Among the 18 awards at regional events, 11 took place at ENGENE, the Northeast Genetics Meeting, currently the largest regional event organized by the SBG, with up to 870 participants. Although initially conceived as a regional event, ENGENE has attracted participants from 18 Brazilian states, as well as international attendees, representing up to 38% of the total number of registrants in the last three editions. This significant highlight at the event demonstrates the importance of the program in the fields of genetics and molecular biology in the Northeast region.
