Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação Contemporânea (PPGEduC)
The Program
The Graduate Program in Contemporary Education of the Academic Center of Agreste (CAA) at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), located in the city of Caruaru/PE, offers Master's and Doctoral courses in Education, contributing to the solid scientific formation of teachers and researchers to act as educators and researchers who are attentive to the complexity of society in contemporary times, considering the connections between local, regional, national, and global contexts.
In this perspective, the profile of the professional to be trained is that of a highly qualified teacher-researcher for the exercise of teaching and the production, socialization, and intervention of educational knowledge in the university, basic education, official education systems, social movements, and other non-school spaces.
Until 2020, the Program offered training at the Master's level. With the approval of the Doctoral course by Capes in 2020 and its commencement on February 1, 2021, the Program expands its scope, also including the training of doctors. Aimed at the development of research and the training of researchers and educators, PPGEduc's general goal is to promote the formation of Master's students (and, starting in 2021, PhDs) in Education. This general goal is divided into three specific ones: 1) train professionals who meet, both quantitatively and qualitatively, the expansion of higher education in the area of Education, with an emphasis on sociocultural diversity and its implications in the formative experience; 2) prepare researchers who develop research in Education, focusing on various modalities and dimensions of the educational phenomenon in school and non-school contexts; 3) develop reflection and propose paths that assist in facing the major issues and challenges posed by new scientific and educational paradigms, by the demands of the educational system, and by educational practices developed in both school and non-school spaces.
The Program, which was a pioneer in the interior of the State in the field of Education, was initially called "Education - Agreste Campus" and, starting in 2012, its name was changed to "Contemporary Education." Since its inception, the Program has decisively contributed to the formation of teachers and researchers working in various educational spaces and to the development of research on important issues in the educational field.
