1. Architecture and urbanism
This research line studies the morphology of the city and buildings, including physical and social structures. It incorporates studies on the formative aspects of urban space, morphological studies, spatial syntax, theory and history of architecture and urbanism, analysis/assessment of urban space and design, and research pertaining to its influence on the group of users and individuals.

2. Integrated conservation
This line of research discusses concepts and practices related to sustainable development and integrated conservation. It examines historical, material and immaterial dimensions that constitute the city and study the natural and built heritage including the urban landscape and public spaces. It adopts methods, techniques and models such as: historical analysis, assessment and analysis of the environment and landscape; management model for the conservation of urban and peri-urban environmental structures; scenario building techniques, techniques for impact assessment; the model of negotiations between social actors and techniques for monitoring and control.

3. Planning and management
This line of research covers issues related to urban planning and management based on these approaches: i) approaches pertaining to the globalization processes and the productive and financial restructuring of the world economy: cities in global networks and cities; ii) new instruments for political and administrative decentralization in the planning and management of cities; iii) evaluation of the limits and possibilities of planning, management and urban governance models; (iv) urban infrastructures, socio-technical networks and mobility and accessibility in urban transport.
