AREA OF CONCENTRATION

The Graduate Program in Music at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) is classified under the field of Arts, according to CNPQ, with a concentration in Music and Society.

The PPGMúsica aims to play a fundamental role in reflecting on the transformations of the contemporary world, using music as a starting point to discuss various themes such as pedagogy, artistic training, artistic production, social processes, and more.

RESEARCH LINES

The research line Music, Culture, and Society focuses on contemporary musical phenomena in their aesthetic, language, and production aspects, as well as their interface with cultural phenomena.

The research line Music, Education, and Society aims to reflect on concrete experiences and the potential of musical educational practice, seeking to expand both the pedagogical and cognitive possibilities of Education and the understanding of music as a cultural artifact in schools and educational groups/practices.

OBJECTIVES

The Graduate Program in Music at the Federal University of Pernambuco aims to train high-level personnel for music research and teaching, a field that has become extremely complex and central in contemporary society.

The diverse background of our faculty seeks to stimulate various approaches in the musical field, with a particular appreciation for dialogue with the human sciences, going beyond the more restricted musicological field.

Situated in a state with a rich musical tradition in Brazilian culture, the program also establishes constant dialogue with artistic and cultural agents in the region.
