The Program The Program

The Postgraduate Program in Therapeutic Innovation (PPGIT) of the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) offers the stricto sensu courses of Academic Master and Ph.D. Recommended by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), in 2008, PPGIT is recognized by the Ministry of Education through the National Education Council.

The mission of PPGIT is to consolidate the country's scientific and technological potential, being considered a national reference for training qualified human resources for the development of drugs, medicines and other priority inputs for health, as well as for management (creation, implementation, and evaluation) of public policies aimed at the health sector.

It can be highlighted that the PPGIT has the task of training professionals capable of working in the pharmaceutical value production chain and for the management of public policies with an impact on health. Thus, it is expected to contribute, from the training received, to the process of modernization and autonomy of scientific and technological innovation in the country through the development of research at the frontier of knowledge.

In this sense, the PPGIT faculty seeks to follow the guidelines of Brazilian policy guided by the National Graduate Plan (PNPG), the UFPE Institutional Strategic Planning (PEI-UFPE) and the municipal, state and national strategic plans, look for align and establish a new development trajectory in Brazil and overcome internal and external imbalances. Therefore, the strengthening of knowledge-intensive areas such as drugs, medicines and their interfaces is a strategic and essential theme for the future of the nation.

The main objective of PPGIT is to qualify professionals, researchers, and professors with inter and multidisciplinary training, of high scientific level, independent and innovative, capable of formulating, planning and developing research projects, new methodologies, generation of new technological products and patents, through the valorization of the technical-scientific competence installed in Pernambuco, synergized by the relevant national and international collaborations maintained by the professors participating in the Program.

Considering the segment of pharmaceuticals, medicines and other strategic inputs for health, the PPGIT also has as its central objective to seek a balance between the strictly academic dimension - where health research is part of research in science and technology - and the redefinitions that are currently operating in the world at the levels of spatial, social and political relations.

In this context, the research projects in progress at PPGIT are related to basic, applied / strategic and technological areas at the frontier of knowledge, with emphasis on molecular modeling, structure, conformation and stereochemistry of molecules; drug planning and synthesis; pharmacology; pharmacokinetics; toxicology; molecular genetics; molecular biology; (nano) pharmaceutical technology; physicochemical interfaces; bionanotechnology; biophysics of processes and systems; sociology of health; intellectual property; pharmacoeconomics; regional development; health management and economics; and territory and technological innovation.

The master's and doctorate degrees in Therapeutic Innovation at UFPE, consequently, represent an institutional strategy for training high-level human resources, including for non-academic markets, capable of amalgamating health and industrial interests necessary to promote the social, economic and social development of the country. The realization that "health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being" and not merely the absence of disease, therefore becomes a necessary element for development and, thus, investments in health become essential for policies of economic growth and human development that seek to improve people's living conditions. For that, there is a need for the full exercise of interdisciplinarity and the strengthening of a continuum in the broad spectrum of research for health: from fundamental to applied.
