The Federal University of Pernambuco, an educational autarchy, is linked to the Ministry of Education through Decree-Law no. 9388, of June 20, 1945, Decree nº 62493, of April 1, 1968 and Decree-Laws no. 53, of November 18, 1966 and 252, dated February 28, 1967) is a higher education and research institution, with headquarters in the city of Recife, the capital of the State of Pernambuco. It is a free public institution for all students.

In accordance with the Program's demand, new PPGEE students, through their ranking in the selection contest, are awarded scholarships from the Coordination of the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel - CAPES; the National Council of Scientific and Technological Development - CNPq and of the Foundation of Support to Science and Technology from the State of Pernambuco - FACEPE. The duration of scholarships is 24 months for masters and 48 months for doctoral students.
