Scholarships and Grants

As a Brazilian public university, UFPE does not charge any tuition fees from its undergraduate or graduate students, Brazilians or not. Graduate students enrolled at the PPG-CM are eligible for scholarship from CAPES and CNPq (Brazilian federal agencies) and from other governmental agencies, according to availability.

At the beginning of each semester, PPG-CM receives a quota of scholarships from each agency and distributes them among students according to criteria established by the Graduate Committee. Candidates who intend to enroll as full-time students will have priority for receiving scholarships from the Program.

The maximum duration of scholarships is 24 months for Master students and 48 months for PhD students.

Candidates from developing countries can also apply for scholarships available through the CAPES PEC-PG program. More information on how to apply and the list of participant countries can be found here.

In addition, supervisors may have scholarships obtained through special projects funded by CNPq, FACEPE or by companies. In these cases, the supervisors manage such scholarships independently.

Financial aid to support participation in scientific events: PPG-CM provides financial support to (partially) cover expenses of students presenting papers in scientific events in Brazil and abroad.

Graduate courses (Master and Doctorate)

The Graduate Program in Materials Science at UFPE offers Master and Doctoral degrees. The Program counts with 28 faculty members belonging to different academic departments, all of them developing research in modern and well-equipped research laboratories. UFPE offers a modern library system, wireless network throughout the campus and an excellent atmosphere for learning and research. Created in 2001, the Program has undergone a remarkable expansion in recent years. In 2015, 11 PhD and 10 Master's degrees were granted by UFPE's PPG-MTR.

How to apply

Every year, regular academic semesters begin in March and August. Typically, a call for applicants to the coming Selective Process is issued approximately five months in advance of each new academic semester (October and April, respectively).
