Resumo:
Light offers a vast potential in the development of modern quantum technologies due to its intrinsic resilience to decoherence effects and its capacity to convey a huge amount of information. The many modes of light, would they be spatial modes or spectral modes, are as many quantum harmonic oscillators, leading to a largely unexplored Hilbert space. Hence, applications for quantum information and metrology are numerous, but still face many challenges when moving to practical implementations. In this presentation, we will more specifically consider the continuous variable approach, where the observables of interest are the quadratures of the electric field. This is advantageous for metrology, as it corresponds to the large number of photons limit, but also for quantum information processing as it allows for deterministic entanglement generation. We will review some of the most important concepts and show examples leading to quantum parameter estimation and to multimode non-gaussian states for quantum information.
Short Bio.
Nicolas Treps is professor at Sorbonne University, within Laboratoire Kastler Brossel, in charge of the multimode quantum optics group. He is also the co-director of the Quantum Information Center Sorbonne. During his career, he developed modal analysis of multimode quantum light, which led to pioneering experiments on quantum metrology, quantum imaging and multimode quantum information. His research is now focused on quantum metrology and quantum information with optical frequency combs, new activities that were funded by an ERC grant. He also applied these concepts to classical application, such as the study of ultrafast laser dynamics and spatial multiplexing. This led to the co-foundation of CAILabs Start-up Company, which develops a complete imaging system with applications to spatial multiplexing in optical fibre of free space transmission (for increased communication data rate) and high power laser welding.
