The Chemical Engineering Department (DEQ) is currently responsible for three undergraduate courses: Chemical Engineering (daytime), Food Engineering (daytime) and Industrial Chemistry (evening classes). It also has a graduate program in Chemical Engineering which offers Master´s and PhD degrees. Part of these programs is sponsored by the Brazilian National Petroleum and Natural Gas Agency (ANP).

We are interested in academic and research cooperation with companies, industries and universities from abroad.

History

The academic teaching of technology in chemistry in the State of Pernambuco - Brazil began in 1920 in the Engineering School of Pernambuco [Escola de Engenharia de Pernambuco]. The degree in chemistry was created in 1948, in the University of Recife. At the present time, applied chemistry courses are held in the Department of Chemical Engineering [Departamento de Engenharia Química (DEQ)], part of the Geosciences and Technology Center [Centro de Tecnologia e Geociências (CTG)] of the Federal University of Pernambuco [Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE)].

The industrialization of the State of Pernambuco is currently increasing, and we expect that our department will be able to teach students who will contribute to that development. On the other hand, we also expect to improve the quality of our research production and our graduate school continually, collaborating with different departments and universities.
