O Departamento de Física da UFPE promoverá o Seminário de Óptica de título “Magnetically assisted Raman gain in Zeeman degenerate two-level systems”. O evento será apresentado pela mestranda Marcia Fromenta na terça-feira (3), às 14h, no auditório do departamento.

Resumo

Electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) is a well-investigated phenomenon, specially using Zeeman degenerate two-level systems. In such systems the observation of EIT requires that angular momentum of the ground state must be larger than the angular momentum of the excited state, i.e., one should have a F – F-1 transition. In the present work we have investigated the EIT spectrum in an ensemble of cold cesium atoms, obtained from a magneto optical trap. Particularly, we investigated the effect of an external magnetic field (transversal or longitudinal) on the EIT spectrum and observed that the corresponding spectrum can change dramatically due to the applied magnetic field, revealing the presence of gain and absorption for specific directions and magnitude of the magnetic field.
