O Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estatística (PPGE), do Departamento de Estatística da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE), realiza amanhã (6) seminário on-line sobre o tema “On the properties of the synthetic control estimator”. O evento será ministrado pelo professor Bruno Ferman (FGV), às 16h, via Google Meet. O departamento orienta os participantes a entrarem na sala virtual com os microfones desligados.

Bruno Ferman é professor da Escola de Economia de São Paulo da Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV EESP), possui doutorado em economia pelo Instituto de Tecnologia de Massachusetts (MIT), mestrado e graduação em economia pela PUC-RJ. Foi professor da George Washington University até 2013. Sua pesquisa envolve econometria, economia comportamental e microeconomia aplicada.

Resumo: 
The Synthetic Control (SC) method has been recently proposed as an alternative to estimate treatment effects in comparative case studies. As one of the main advantages that helped popularize the method, Abadie et al. (2010) derive conditions under which the SC estimator would allow confounding unobserved characteristics with time-varying effects, as long as there exist weights such that a weighted average of the control units fits the outcomes of the treated unit for a long set of pre-intervention periods. I present a series of papers that analyze the properties of the SC estimator in different settings when these conditions are relaxed.
