Programa de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia Civil e Ambiental - PPGECAM
The Program
The Program
The Graduate Program in Civil and Environmental Engineering (PPGECAM) at the Agreste Campus of the Federal University of Pernambuco began its activities in 2010 with the Academic Master’s program. Having become a regional reference, the program has recently received CAPES approval to offer a PhD program, expanding its contribution to the training of highly qualified professionals and to technical-scientific production.
PPGECAM plays a strategic role in strengthening the social, economic, and cultural development of Pernambuco and Brazil. This is reflected in its contribution to educating highly qualified professionals who can meet the demands of a constantly evolving market and provide solutions to regional and national challenges. Throughout its trajectory, the program has stood out for its strong regional engagement, serving as a key gateway to graduate studies for students coming from undergraduate programs in the interior of Pernambuco and other areas of the Northeast. This connection to local and regional realities enables the program to directly enhance the region’s human capital, promoting knowledge dissemination and the socioeconomic transformation of the community.
Areas of Concentration
The program is structured around two areas of concentration:
1) Civil Works and Infrastructure
-
Sustainability of the Built Environment
-
Structural Dynamics and Vibration Control
-
Concrete, Steel, and Composite Structures
-
Geotechnical Studies
2) Natural Resources and the Environment
-
Soil Contamination and Management of Contaminated Areas
-
Mathematical and Computational Modeling Applied to Natural Resources
-
Water Resources
-
Environmental Sanitation
Laboratories
To support teaching and research, PPGECAM has five dedicated laboratories and eight shared with the Agreste Campus Technology Center, namely: Environmental Engineering Laboratory (LEA); Computational Engineering Laboratory (LECOM); Sustainability Engineering Laboratory (LES); Structures Laboratory (LE); Construction Engineering Laboratory (LCC); Geoprocessing Laboratory (GEOLAB); Geotechnics Laboratory (LABGEO); Experimental Hydraulics and Water Resources Laboratory (LAHER); Computer Laboratory (LINT); Chemistry Laboratory (LQ); Textile Technology Laboratory (LABTEXTIL); Multi-User Water and Energy Laboratory (LAMAE); Multi-User Advanced Computing and High-Performance Modeling Laboratory (LACAM); and Multi-User Technologies for the Semi-Arid Laboratory (LAMTESA). All laboratories are air-conditioned and have suitable infrastructure for conducting research.
