Resumo:

The Ginzburg-Landau theory distinguishes superconductors of ideally diamagnetic type I and of type II, where the magnetic field penetrates the superconducting condensate as a regular lattice of Abrikosov single-quantum vortices. Which of the types is realized depends on the Ginzburg-Landau parameter, with  and  being, respectively, the magnetic penetration depth and the Ginzburg-Landau coherence length. However, this simple classification applies only for materials deep in type I (, where) or deep in type II ().  Superconductivity in systems with reveals non-standard properties that cannot be described within the conventional type-I/type-II dichotomy. It can be broadly referred to as the intertype superconductivity.

Recently a new concept of the intertype superconductivity has been introduced. It relates the intertype physics to the Bogomolnyi self-duality, i.e., the fundamental property of superconductors for  and. The self-duality results in degeneration of the superconducting state which at  and  hosts infinite number of various exotic self-dual configurations of the flux and condensate. When temperature decreases below, the degeneracy is lifted and the exotic states, confined previously in the Bogomolnyi point, break out of their ``prison" and shape the properties of the intertype regime.

A general introduction into the problem of the intertype superconductivity will be given in the colloquium for the interested layman.
