Título: Microcontroller-based magnetometer using a single-nitrogen vacancy defect in a nanodiamond
Resumo: Measurements of magnetic fields with ultrahigh spatial resolution are relevant not only in material science and biology but also for development of new application in areas as spintronic and quantum information. The negatively charge single nitrogen-vacancy defect (NV-) in nanodiamond is proposed as a nanometric sensor of magnetic fields using as principal tool the Optically Detected Magnetic Resonance (ODMR) technique. In this seminar, I will present the development of an ODMR-based system for performing nanomagnetometry, using Arduino Due as key device in home-built parts for implementing it. The essential part uses the microcontroller to generate AC current square pulses, which are sent through a wire loop located in the vicinity of the nanodiamond, for generating AC magnetic field square pulses. Due to the Zeeman effect, the result is a modulation of the electron spin resonance (ESR) of the NV- defect. Monitoring the photoluminescence emitted by the defect the system is able to measure the orientation and amplitude of external magnetic fields and track the ESR for time-varying magnetic fields at rates up to 4 mT/s. With this system we were also able to perform magnetic field imaging, detecting gradients of 13 mT/63 nm, close to the estimated limit of the device.
